Reckon Day vs Reckon Retreat. Which fits your team?

A short comparison. The two formats look different on paper, but the pick is usually obvious within the first call. Here are the questions we'd ask first.

The two main team formats at Reckon. are a one-day on-site Reckon Day and a six-to-seven day Reckon Retreat in Madeira. They share the same skeleton (the 5 R's), but they solve different problems. People often ask which one fits their team. Here's how we think about it.

What's the same

Both formats run the full cycle: recognize, reckon, refine, reflect, run. Both are hands-on, with real work and real tools. Both end with a one-page personal reference per attendee plus follow-up support. Both are run out of the same studio with the same hands.

What's different

The day compresses the cycle into six hours, on your site, around your team's existing workflows. The retreat gives each step its own day, off-site, with reflection time built in. The day is for teams that need to move now. The retreat is for teams that need to step out before they can move.

Pick a Reckon Day if…

  • You have a team of four to twenty people who share at least some workflows.
  • The work is concrete: real files, real workflows, real problems.
  • You want everyone to share the same baseline by Friday.
  • The decision pace in your org is days, not quarters.
  • Leadership is in the room, or already on board.
  • You'd rather find out what to build next than philosophise about AI strategy.

Pick a Reckon Retreat if…

  • You're a founder, leadership team, or individual professional who can't think clearly about AI in the same room where you answer email.
  • You've already noticed AI is changing how work feels, and you can't quite name what to do about it from the inbox.
  • The decision pace in your org is quarterly or yearly. Integration time matters.
  • You want to build a personal practice, not just learn a workflow.
  • You're prepared to actually disconnect for the no-tech afternoons. The retreat is curriculum, not a working holiday.

Pick neither (yet) if…

  • You're not sure AI matters for your team. Start with the open workshop. It's the cheapest way to find out.
  • You want a keynote. We do those, but they're a different shape. Email us.
  • You want to build something specific. The studio side of Reckon. builds AI tools. A Reckon Day can scope it. A retreat is overkill.
The price ladder looks like depth. Read it as time: the day is hours, the retreat is days.

Cost shape

A Reckon Day is a custom quote per team, excluding BTW. The price reflects team size, sector, and workflow complexity. A retreat is €5,000–7,500 per person, all-inclusive (accommodation, meals, transport on the island, curriculum, follow-up), excluding BTW. Flights are not included.

For most teams the day is the better first move. About a third of our retreat cohorts are people who attended a Reckon Day first. A few are direct.

One last question we wish more clients asked

"What happens if we don't?" The honest answer is: the gap between curiosity and capability gets wider, and the team makes do with the AI usage they already have. That's not catastrophic. But for many teams the cost of not closing that gap shows up in burned hours, half-finished experiments, and a quiet drift toward "we should figure this out at some point." Either format closes that gap. The question is just which one fits how your team makes decisions.
